My dear friends in Christ,
The reading from Philippians from the third Sunday of Advent tells us to “Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice!” We are just over two weeks away from celebrating the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ and experiencing anew the joy that the Christ Child brings to our hearts and homes. While Christmas is closer than ever, we still remain in Advent, preparing for Christmas. As a parish, we have three upcoming opportunities to continue our preparation for coming of the Lord.
Our Advent Taizé Prayer will be on Thursday, December 15 at 7:30 pm in the Cathedral. Taizé Prayer is a meditative form of prayer revolving around gentle litanies, profound silence and veneration of the Cross.
The Cathedral Choir of Christ the King will celebrate the return of its annual presentation, A Candlelight Service of Readings and Carols on Sunday, December 18 at 7:30 pm in the Cathedral (the 7:15 pm Mass will be held in Kenny Hall). This wonderful Cathedral tradition combines the prophetic expectation of Advent with the joyful fulfillment of Christ’s birth. The superb visual and acoustic environment of the Cathedral will be enhanced by sparkling illuminations of the church’s stained glass windows, candlelight and renditions of many beloved Christmas carols.
Finally, we will hold our Advent Penance Night on Monday, December 19 from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. More than 20 priests will be available to hear your confession and prepare us to receive Emmanuel who came as a baby to save us.
All are invited to join in our Advent preparations.
