Recertification

The Cathedral of Christ the King is recertifying each of its Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. Please review the materials below. Once you have, submit the form at the bottom of the page to complete your recertification process.

My brothers and sisters in Christ,

I wish to thank you all for your faithful service as Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Communion at the Cathedral of Christ the King. Your willingness to serve at Mass is a profound gift to our parish community and an essential part of our liturgical life.

The ministry you carry out is deeply important. As the Church teaches, the Eucharist is the Source and Summit of our faith, and through your reverent service, Christ is made present to the people of God in a tangible and prayerful way.

As part of our responsibility to uphold the requirements of the Archdiocese of Atlanta, we are administering a recertification process for all Eucharistic Ministers. This process is intended to give you prayerful support, affirm the significance of your ministry, and ensure that we continue to serve with unity, reverence, and integrity.

Please know of my sincere gratitude for your dedication and your continued generosity in serving the Lord and the Cathedral of Christ the King.

Read These Reminders

A Holy Task
Remember at all times that you have the honor of, and are responsible for, distributing the actual body and blood of Jesus Christ.

Attire
You should be dressed in a respectful way consistent with the reverence of your duties.

Quick Consumption
You are responsible for paying attention that the Body of Christ is immediately consumed by the host recipient.

Simple Blessings
Blessings by lay people serving as EMHCs to those not receiving the Eucharist are very direct and simple, such as “the Lord bless you and keep you.”

Sign of the Cross
Do not make the sign of the cross over anyone seeking a blessing; that is reserved for ordained clergy.

Contact
Do not touch the person seeking a blessing, or any person in the distribution line.

Processing to the Rear
When distributing in the back of the Cathedral, proceed up the side aisles to get to your station. If the side pews are still emptying out please let them go first and follow the last person.

Returning from the Rear
If you are distributing in the back, please return as a group down the center aisle when finished distributing. However, if a Chalice runs out before everyone has received then the EM should return along the side aisle as Communion continues.

Efficiency
You should be mindful of the progress of the Mass and quickly return to the Sanctuary with your ciboria or chalice as soon as your distribution duties are complete.

Flexibility
Be willing to take direction from clergy.

The Precious Blood
If you sign up to distribute the precious blood, you have to consume all of the blood that is not consumed during distribution, or ask another EMHC to consume for you.

Denying Communion
You do not have the authority to deny anyone communion.

Reception on the Tongue
If someone wants to receive on the tongue, you must comply with their wish.

Check in
Please be respectful of the process and always check in with the Mass Leader prior to the Mass.

Please become familiar with and regularly use the Ministry Scheduler Pro software system for EMHC signups.

Pray The Prayer Before the Blessed Sacrament

O Jesus, present in the Sacrament of the Altar,
teach all nations to serve you with a willing heart,
knowing that to serve God is to reign.
May your sacrament, O Jesus,
be light to the mind,
strength to the will,
joy to the heart.
May it be the support for the weak,
the comfort for the suffering,
the wayfaring bread of salvation for the dying,
and, for all, the pledge of future glory.
