Kilometer Kids is Atlanta Track Club’s oldest and largest youth running program. The game-based curriculum is designed to teach kids 5-14 about goal setting, healthy habits, respect, and community building, all through exposing them to the sport of running. Over the course of the season, the goal for every Kilometer Kid is to run 26.2 miles or the equivalent of a marathon by attending two practices a week for 11 weeks. There is a very small fee to participate in order to cover materials and coaching, and the program is for all elementary and middle school students regardless of running ability or experience. As a noncompetitive program, being a Kilometer Kid is not about running the fastest or winning the race. Instead it’s all about working hard, being kind and having fun while becoming more physically active, being a part of a team and finding joy in the process.

Instructor: Jess Robinson

Christ the King parent and Certified Yoga Instructor Jess Robinson will lead program participants
through a fun and meaningful afterschool experience that weaves together yoga, mindfulness and
arts & crafts. The program introduces character building concepts like generosity, gratitude,
happiness, lovingkindness and assists in establishing healthy habits in self-esteem building,
dreaming & goal setting, patience, concentration and self-awareness, compassion, and coping with
change or big feelings. A typical session includes a yoga practice, the teaching of a mindfulness
concept and the imprint and adoption of the concept with a fun and creative arts and craft or
other habit-forming application. Kids will engage in foundational yoga poses, short & fun
visualization & guided meditation, and self-expression through vibrant arts & crafts and
journaling. Kid-friendly mindfulness techniques assist in self-regulation, navigating emotions
skillfully and help to contribute to a kinder, more conscious way of being. Children are uniquely
suited to benefit from a mindfulness practice, because habits formed early in life inform
behaviors in adulthood. Being peaceful, kind & accepting is a skill! Mindfulness builds the habit.
