How do I get started?
Contact Bernadette Flowers, Associate Director of Adult Faith Formation at 404-267-3690 or email@example.com.
Please note: During this period of social distancing and stay at home orders, we will not have Inquiry Information Sessions on campus. Please schedule a FaceTime or Google Duo session to discuss your path to becoming Catholic at https://cathedralctk.com/rciainterview.
We also have Inquiry Information Sessions once a month all year long in the Board Room (located on the lower level of the Cathedral) at 6:30 PM. They are usually the 4th Monday of the month. Please click here to check the Cathedral Calendar here for the dates. You are invited to attend these “no obligation” inquiry sessions where we share our journeys in faith and answer any questions or concerns.
Do I have to make a commitment to become Catholic before I begin the process?
You do not have to make a commitment to become Catholic prior to the start of the process. The RCIA journey begins with your desire to learn more about becoming Catholic. You will have a chance to have your questions answered and participate in the faith journey with others inquirers. You can find answers to the frequently asked questions here.
When does the process begin?
The next RCIA process begins on Saturday, September 12, 2020 with our Opening Retreat and Rite of Acceptance and Welcome, and continues to meet on Sunday mornings from 10:15 am to 12:00 pm in Conference Room 1. The sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist are celebrated at the Easter Vigil on Saturday, April 3, 2021.
What if I’m already a baptized Christian?
We also have a summer RCIA series that meets on Sundays at 10:15 am – 12:00 pm for adults who have been baptized in another faith tradition, are very familiar with Christianity, have been attending Mass for at least a year and desire to come into full communion with the Catholic Church. The summer class begins with our Opening Retreat on Sunday, May 17, 2020, and ends with the Rite of Reception on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at the 5:00 pm Vigil Mass.
What if I have already been baptized as a Catholic and received my First Communion?
Adults who have for those adults who have been (1) baptized Catholic, (2) have received First Communion in the Catholic Church, (3) are in a regular marriage and are seeking Confirmation are welcome to attend either our Fall RCIA series beginning Saturday, September 12, 2020 with our Opening Retreat or our Summer RCIA series which begins on with our Opening Retreat on Sunday, May 17, 2020, and ends with the Rite of Reception on Sunday, August 29, 2020.
What is the RCIA Process?
Throughout the history of Christianity, people of all faiths have found their way to the Catholic Church. While each person’s journey is as unique as the individual themselves, all are drawn to the one God and for the same purpose – to know Him, to love Him and to serve Him. The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults offers a program of faith formation, discipleship and fellowship for adults 18 years and older that will prepare them for full initiation/communion into the Catholic Church at Easter. Here’s an outline of the process.
