As a rule an adult is to be baptized in his or her parish church and an infant in the parish church of the parents unless a just cause suggests otherwise.

Code of Canon Law, Can. 857 §2

If the Cathedral is your home parish and you wish to baptize your child at another parish, they will require a Letter of Permission from Monsignor McNamee’s office. We can only issue letters for active, registered parishioners.

An active parishioner, as defined by the Archdiocese of Atlanta, is “registered with a parish, attends Mass on a regular basis, supports the parish through the consistent giving of time, talent and financial resources in support of the parish (use of offertory envelopes or online giving) and receives regular mailings and communications from the parish.”

To request the letter

Contact Monsignor’s executive assistant, Trish Carr, at tcarr@ctking.com. In your request, make sure to include:

  • Parents’ and child’s full names
  • Family address, phone, email
  • Baptism date (or tentative date)
  • Parish of baptism: their name, address, phone, contact name, and email.

Tip: If the parish requires proof of attendance at a baptism preparation class and you attended the class at Christ the King, ask Trish to include the date of that class date in the letter. If you are unsure about the date, we can look it up.
